When Melissa and I named our children we searched for names with great meanings. Our son's name is Payton Chaz. The name Payton actually means “a city of warriors.” Little did we know, Chaz would be diagnosed Autistic at the age of five. Three years later, that diagnosis was removed and speacialists at the University of Louisville told us that Chaz showed no signs associated with autism. Shortly after that I began to think about Chaz, his battles, the meaning of his name, and the role prayer and fasting has played during these times of victory.
When our son was six he had never experienced a proper bowel moment. He would either go in his pants or in his sleep. On the seventh day of a “liquid only fast” I walked down the hall of our home and passed through a terrible smell coming from underneath the bathroom door. My boy was on the throne! I said, “Is that you in there Chaz?” He said “Yeap.” I said, “What are you doing?” With a little attitude in his voice he said, “I’m plop ploppin daddy.” He never again had a problem plop ploppin.
The Bible reveals to us the power of fasting (Matthew 17:21). In dedication to our son, we have broken ground for this network of prayer warriors. The City of Warriors is made up of 120 people who are devoted to prayer and fasting for children with special needs. Parents summit to us their child’s story and picture. That information is shared throughout our network. Each person on our team takes 73 hours during the year to fast and pray over the families they are assigned to prayer for. If you do the math that means each year is covered with prayer and fasting for the families and children suffering from disabilities. Stories can be submitted by using the form on our site.
